At Advanced Learning
Schools, there are two counsellors who provide services that
revolve around three developmental areas:
academic, personal/psychosocial, and career.
The goal of these services is to
help the student:
-
Demonstrate a positive attitude toward self as a unique
and worthy person.
-
Gain
life-planning skills that are consistent with their
needs, interests, and abilities.
-
Develop
responsible social skills and an understanding and
appreciation of being a contributing member of society.
-
Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of the
life-long process of learning, growing, and changing.
At Advanced Learning Schools,
we believe that the educational process is an equal
partnership between the parents and the school. Each
side has their roles, duties, responsibilities and
expectations. Thus, parents are highly encouraged to
be involved from the beginning in their children's educational
process. At the beginning of the academic year
students are issued a Parent/Student Handbook which is
recommended for parents to read and keep in an accessible
place for future reference. This Handbook clearly
defines all the policies and procedures as well as the
expectations that we set out for our students. These
policies and procedures include rules for promotion, graduation, probation,
attendance/absences and retention.
At Advanced Learning Schools,
we believe that communication ties between the parents and
the school is an integral part in the child's educational
process. There are several ways to strengthen these
ties.
-
Back to School Night in
which parents have the opportunity to meet the teachers
and staff and discuss the upcoming year..
-
During the course of the
academic year, student progress reports are sent home on
weekly, half-quarterly and quarterly basis. Grade reports
are also sent home at the end of each quarter.
-
All
staff and teachers are readily accessible
through emails,
calls and text messaging in order for parents to
schedule an individual conference to discuss the
progress of their child.
