In meeting with our Mission Statement to
“provide an environment that encourages moral development,
active and independent learning, analytical thinking,
life-long learning and sensitivity to the environmental
requirements of the global community” we have planned an
excursion to the Learning Centre for Environmental Education
in Cyprus from March 11 – 17, 2010.
As part of their Internal Assessment, Most of
the Grade 11 and 12 Biology and Environmental Science
students attended a specialized practice ecological camp in
Cyprus where schools from around the world attend. This
camp is designed to perform a set of experiments and
scientific investigations under the supervision of
specialized staff at the facility.
The Centre is located in the Paphos district,
on the northern edge of the Laona plateau. It has been in
operation since 1995 and has provided Environmental
education to 3000 students every year from the schools and
universities of Cyprus, Western Europe, and the Middle
East. The Centre provides the opportunity for students to
gain first-hand knowledge, through hands-on activities, in
areas such as stream ecology. Biogeography, flora and fauna
as well as other areas of study. The students will also
write their reports while in Cyprus, and be graded
accordingly.

Grade 2 Field trip
As part of our inquiry into “how
art is a reflection of the artists and of society”, grade 2
students were privileged to visit the studio of a celebrated
local artist, Mrs. Hanan Bahmdan. At the hand of the master
our students learned sketching techniques and in no time
became budding young artists.
This very rewarding experience
was made possible by Mrs. Reem Al Sudairy, the mother of one
of our second grade students.
